Workshop for professional dancers

with Theo Clinkard (UK)

During the Tanzfestival Winterthur Theo Clinkard will hold a workshop for professional dancers.
tiw offers 10 scholarship for this 15 hour workshop.

Through his teaching, Clinkard encourages dancers to bring attention to their perceptive experience of the space, each other and themselves to find greater lucidity in action.

Expect sensory exercises, led movement patterns with attention on alignment and the dynamic connections within the moving body, great music, discussion, phrase work and group improvisations that encourage connected, articulate and expansive dancing.

Dancers are then invited to embody and discuss the practices that lie at the heart of Clinkard’s current choreographic work. He draws upon a range of exploratory and creative tasks from various creative processes, many of which aim to divert performers self consciousness by focusing on response; response to touch, to the visual field, to conditions of time, to language, to vivid imagery and to imagined realities. He is passionate about cultivating generous safe spaces for genuine experimentation and connectivity for all those that attend.
Clinkard’s workshop in Winterthur will accompany the performance of his recent commission, The Days which will be performed by Finnish dancers Maria Nurmela and Ville Oinonen.

Theo Clinkard is based in U.K. and his practice spans choreography, pedagogy, performance and design. Since launching his company in 2012, he has steadily built an international reputation for creating affecting and visually arresting dances for small to large-scale theatres as well as non-theatre settings.  Past company productions have toured to Chile, Ireland, Switzerland, and Germany.

Recent commissioned works include, Somewhat still, when seen from above for Tanztheatre Wuppertal Pina Bausch and The Listening Room for Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, whilst a new work for Candoco Dance Company will premiere in October 2019.

Clinkard regularly leads intensives workshops, residencies and classes internationally for professional companies, dance organisations and training institutions.

At the heart of Clinkard’s practice is an interest in the communicative potential of the body and the empathetic nature of dance in performance.
